  • Highlights: Visit the most interesting temples in Chiang Mai: Wat Phra Singh (with its famous Buddha image), Wat Chiang Man (oldest temple in Chiang Mai built by King Mangrai), Wat Suan Dok (housing remains of many generations of the old Chiang Mai Royal Family) and Wat Doi Suthep (tucked away in the mountains at 1,056 meters above sea level).

Chiang Mai—Chiang Rai—Chiang Saen (B/L/D)
  •  Breakfast.
  • 09:00 Drive to Chiang Rai and lunch at local restaurant. Continue to Chiang Saen, former capital of the first Thai Kingdom, situated directly on Mekong River at border between Thailand and Laos. Visit Wat Phra Dhat Jom Kitti by climbing 383 steps to top of hill. Also visit Wat Chedi Luang and small museum nearby. Continue by longtail speedboat upriver on the Mekong towards Golden Triangle where borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet.
  • Dinner and accommodation at the Imperial Golden Triangle or similar.

Chiang Saen—Doi Mae Salong—Mae Sai—Chiang Rai (B/L/D)
  • Breakfast.
  • 08:00 Depart from Chiang Saen to visit Lisu Village at Ban Mae Kaotom and continue uphill via Mae Chan to visit Yao and Akha hilltribe village. Proceed to Doi Mae Salong, passing through beautiful mountain scenery, for a stunning view of Thailand, Myanmar and the Mekong Valley. Lunch at Mae Salong Villa in Doi Mae Salong. Depart Doi Mae Salong to Mae Sai, the northernmost Thai town on the Myanmar border. Walk around local market with opportunity for shopping. Proceed to Chiang Rai, short stop at fish cave.
  • Dinner and accommodation at the Dusit Island Resort or The Legend Chiang Rai Boutique Resort & Spa.

Chiang Rai—Thatorn—Hmong Hilltribe Lodge (B/L/D)

  • Breakfast.
  • 07:30 Leave hotel for boat landing. Board simple longtail motorboat for 3-hour journey up Kok River, passing tiny hilltribe villages, bamboo huts and jungle scenery. Disembark at Ban Pha Tai and continue by vehicle to visit Ban Lorcha, a Phami Akha hilltribe community center. This community-based tourism development project promotes sustainable, self-reliant development to improve the quality of life of villagers of this Akha Community, and is a model for tourism in Hilltribe villages. Drive to Mae Kok River Lodge for lunch. Proceed to Mae Rim via Fang and Chiang Dao. Continue by land rover to the Hmong Hilltribe Lodge for BBQ dinner followed by presentation of Meo dances. Overnight at the Hmong Hilltribe Lodge.
  • Remarks: Accommodation at the Hmong Hilltribe Lodge is very basic.

Hmong Hilltribe Lodge—Chiang Mai (B/L)

  • Breakfast.
  • 08:00 Drive to an elephant camp and watch elephants taking timber in the forest. Their strength and strategic teamwork will amaze you.
  • Take a 1-hour elephant safari into the surrounding countryside. Continue with visit to an orchid farm and lunch at a local restaurant.
  • Afternoon visit the Handicraft Villages to watch the manufacture of lacquer ware, spinning and weaving of Thai Silk and to watch how paper umbrellas are made. Also visit a well-known Thai wood-carving factory, with possibility of buying Burmese antiques. Overnight at the Tamarind Village or similar.
  • Remarks: Sunday night market outside hotel.

Chiang Mai (B)
  • Breakfast. Transfer to airport. Fly to Bangkok.

Bangkok (3B/1L)
  • Arrive Bangkok. Transfer to hotel. Remainder of day at leisure for shopping.
  • Nights in Bangkok at the Siam Heritage or similar.
  • Breakfast. Morning City Temples & Grand Palace Tour. Afternoon at leisure for shopping.
  • Highlights: Wat Trimitr, the Temple of the Golden Buddha and drive through China Town. The Grand Palace is the most venerated complex of buildings in Thailand, including the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, located on the palace grounds. The Royal Chapel and the Emerald Buddha are the most sacred objects to the Buddhists of Thailand. Last stop: Wat Po, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha.
  • Breakfast. Full Day Floating Market & Rose Garden (Lunch)
  • Full day tour includes a visit to the rural floating market of Damnoen Saduak located 70 miles west of Bangkok. Here vendors sell their wares and food products from small boats, recreating the atmosphere when floating markets were still an a part of everyday life in Bangkok. Also visit the largest pagoda in Southeast Asia. Continue to the Rose Garden for a buffet lunch followed by a cultural show of Thai arts.
  • Depart Bangkok
  • Breakfast. Transfer to hotel. Fly to San Francisco via Singapore.

Spend 10 nights in Bali; 2 nights at Tanjong Benoa with one cooking class/3 nights on the Beach of Candidasa with one cooking class/5 nights in the mountains of Ubud with 1 cooking classes, batik making class & bicycle tour plus 2 nights on the island of Lombok.   • Day 03: Wednesday, Oct 15-Morning Cooking Class at Bumbu Bali Cooking School. Lunch included. Afternoon Bali sightseeing tour & shopping at Kuta.  Dinner on our own.
  • Day 04: Thursday, Oct 16- Transfer from Tanjong Benoa to Puri Bagus, Candidasa with sightseeing on the way. Lunch is included.  Dinner at hotel or elsewhere on our own account.
